About Nasos Karabelas
Nasos Karabelas is a self-taught fine art photographer and film director, born in Pyrgos, Greece, in the early ‘90s. He has already produced three short films and one feature film, which took part in festivals in Greece and abroad. Despite the fact that Nasos has been working with photographs for the last eight years, he still doesn’t define himself as a proper photographer. He rather likes to see his work as experimental, with the initial intent to rediscover and distort the human body.
The best form to describe his vision is through abstract photography, a medium considered by Nasos an attempt to move towards other forms of art such as painting.
Photographic Work
His images show ambiguity and concern, all emotions moved by unstable human feelings. He aims to explore this distortion of human bodies through his lens, given by the specific technique of “long exposure”.
This black-and-white series attempts to understand the functioning of sensations by exploring the emotional space and the interaction between the forms of the image and the viewer. The shapes evoke a dreamlike sense, driving the viewer to discover the psychological ability to feel an emotion. The camera is the primary observation tool and is ubiquitous in underlining personal perceptions of a subject. For instance, although the figure is always alienated and blurred, the more we stare at the image, the more it reveals and evokes a specific personal feeling.
Nasos aims to depict a dimension that belongs to a world of dreams and chaos.
