Gypsy Rose Blanchard Recalls Pulling The Trigger At Mom Before Murder

The desire to be free of her mother’s abuse had been brewing inside Gypsy Rose Blanchard long before she hatched her infamous murder plot.

The former convict recently opened up about trying to kill her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, after she was severely punished for attempting to flee the matriarch’s manipulation. The incident alleged occurred during a heated argument, where Gypsy picked up a gun and fired away.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard Feared For Her Life After Her Mom Bought A Gun

After spending nearly a decade behind bars for participating in her mother’s murder, Gypsy is using her newfound freedom to spread awareness about the abuse she endured. She recalled the time she tried killing Dee Dee with a gun in a new Lifetime docuseries, “The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard.”

The 32-year-old attempted to escape her mother’s manipulation after meeting an older man named Dan at a sci-fi convention. He was 36, while she believed she was just 15 when they began chatting online.

However, Gypsy learned she was 19 and ran away to be with Dan. Unfortunately, she accidentally left her phone at home, and Dee Dee uncovered the messages filled with her escape plans.

The matriarch tracked down other convention-goers and found someone who knew Dan’s address. Once she dragged her daughter back home, Gypsy claimed she was severely beaten, chained her to the bed, and had a “voodoo hex” placed on her. In her words:

“She took every precaution she could to make sure I made no attempts to reach anyone by social media. My mom bought a gun, and that scared the ever living eff out of me. I was afraid that she would kill me.”

Despite losing contact with Dan, the 32-year-old noted she never stopped planning to escape her mother’s abuse. But, all her efforts were thwarted by Dee Dee until the losses finally led to a heated confrontation.

During their argument, Gypsy noted her mom dropped the gun on the table in front of them. But the younger Blanchard instinctively defended herself with the weapon when things escalated. “I grabbed the gun, and I threatened her with it, and before I knew it, I pulled the trigger as many times as I could,” she recalled in the docuseries, adding:

“When I shot my mother, I just remember thinking, ‘Oh my god, did I just do that? What did I just do?’ A couple of them hit her, a couple of them hit the wall. But the wounds were superficial; it barely grazed her.”

“That’s when I realized it was a BB gun, and that made me feel relieved. I did not intend to kill her. But I was shocked I pulled the trigger at all,” Gypsy claimed. Upon realizing her mother wasn’t in danger, the tension left her body, and the duo continued their conversation.

The former convict noted that she “offloaded all my anger and questions” towards her mom, wondering why she wasn’t allowed to have “a normal life.” Dee Dee allegedly told her that she required special care and once again coerced her daughter into a life of fake medical diagnoses and treatments.

“I started crying, and I told her, ‘I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry I hurt you,’” Gypsy continued. “My mom was such a good master manipulator that she was able to flip me right back into submission again.”

Gypsy Rose Is Not Allowed To Communicate With Her Ex-Boyfriend

The timeline of Gypsy’s BB gun episode with Dee Dee falls around 2011, four years before the matriarch was brutally stabbed to death. In 2015, the younger Blanchard planned her mother’s death with her ex-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn.

While the gruesome crime earned Gypsy nearly a decade behind bars, her former beau was given a harsher sentence of life imprisonment. As stated, the 32-year-old is out on parole, but her freedom came with strict rules, including zero communication with Godejohn.

Her parole conditions explicitly state that she cannot talk to him, whether through email, text, writing, or even through any third party. Gypsy, who is currently back home in Louisiana with her husband, Ryan Scott Anderson, is also required to complete an outpatient mental health program.

Gypsy and Godejohn were online buddies for two years before finally meeting in person for a movie date. The duo’s extensive text exchanges revealed they planned to marry, start a family, and had even chosen names for their future children.

However, their first physical meeting wasn’t for a romantic movie date but to execute their plan to murder Dee Dee. Godejohn had traveled from Wisconsin to Missouri to do the evil deed on June 9, 2015.
