Ersilia is an imaginary city. During the past three years it has transformed through the voices and the stories of the artists who have created its outline, by imagining places, inhabitants, and living conditions. Now this city materialises in the halls of MACTE, as it takes different shapes and languages to welcome ever-changing communities.
Ersilia is a house and a forest, a haven and a school, a river and a library, a cinema and a planetary, a bar and a phantasmatic palace; but more than anything, Ersilia is a place for stories, rituals, and imaginaries capable of creating other worlds. The exhibition route includes interspecies, queer, inter-temporal and multi-lingual perspectives, so to become a friendly place for re-imagining the present.
The exhibitions recounts some fragments of a world that emerges through those care practices generated by the works on view, which suggest, each in its own way, other visions of the reality we coexist in. The artistic interventions do not only offer a critical reflection upon the present, but they also contribute to build an elsewhere full of potential to put into practice so to intervene on the real.
Ersilia is made of fixed and moving images, of sounds, smells and flavours. As a square, the central hall of the museum hosts several artistic practices: a place for sharing and exchange. Already-existing installations and new works, especially conceived for MACTE’s space, invite the audience to take part in the creation of a plural and sensorial dimension that comes about throughout the time span of the show, also via a series of workshops which will allow to deepen Ersilia’s foundational process.
