Asus’s Republic of Gamers phones are a favourite of those who enjoy gaming on the go, due to the power and dedicated features on the devices that make playing the latest titles a breeze.
Now, the company is putting the final touches to the latest handset to wear the name, with some intriguing new updates likely to appear. Here’s all we know so far about the Asus ROG Phone 7.
When will the Asus ROG Phone 7 be released?
Asus has announced that its ROG Phone 7: Those Who Dare event will take place on 13 April at 8pm in Taipei, which works out to 1pm BST, 8am EST, and 5am PST. It’s expected that the new device will be unveiled and that it should be available shortly afterwards.

It’s unclear which models will be announced at the event, as we’ve seen various reports of devices for the global market, India, and China-exclusives. At the moment it looks most likely that Europe, North America, and India could see the standard ROG Phone 7, while the latter misses out on ROG Phone 7 Pro. There’s also the possibility of ROG Phone 7D and Ultimate variants that may be restricted to China.
How much will the Asus ROG Phone 7 cost?
There’s no official details on the asking price for the ROG Phone 7 yet, although we can look to the past generations to give us a ballpark figure.
Asus’s current ROG Phone 6 range comprises the ROG Phone 6D, ROG Phone 6, ROG Phone 6 Pro, and ROG Phone 6D Ultimate. The most affordable of the range is the ROG Phone 6D which will set you back £799 in the UK (it’s not available in most of Europe or the US). The ROG Phone 6 starts at $899/£899/€999 for a 12GB/256GB configuration, stepping up to $999/£999/€1,149 if you want the 16GB/512GB model instead.
There are more expensive options in the ROG Phone 6 Pro ($1,299/£1,099) and ROG Phone 6D Ultimate (£1,199/€1,399/not available in the US).
We can’t see Asus veering too far away from these prices at the moment, so we’d expect like-for-like costs on the upgraded models.
What features will we see in the Asus ROG Phone 7?
We don’t have long to wait until Asus reveals all the technical specifications in the ROG Phone 7, but we do already have a good idea of what the new device should bring to the table.
In terms of processing power, gaming phones always need high-end chipsets to cope with the demands of graphically intensive titles. With that in mind, it seems very likely that the ROG Phone 7 will arrive with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 at the helm.
This seems to have been born out by two Asus devices spotted on the Geekbench database. GSMArena reports that they both use the 3.19GHz Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and are most likely the ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Pro. The listing also showed that the chipset would include 4x 2.8GHz and 3x 2.02GHz CPU cores, and be equipped with 16GB of RAM.
If Asus follows its previous pattern then we’d expect to see a baseline storage capacity of 256GB. Other configurations should also be available, with the possibility of an 18GB/512GB model proving quite a tempting prospect. These could also be boosted by moving to LPDDR5X and UFS 4.0 like other flagships, which would keep things pretty nippy.
Crazreview outlines some other specifications, including a 6.8in AMOLED Full HD+ display with a refresh rate of at least 165Hz, and a 6000mAH battery that can fast-charge at 65W, just like the previous generation.
The site also reported recently on what appears to be a listing for the ROG Phone 7D, which also features a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and comes with 16GB of RAM.
That’s all we’ve seen so far, but with the launch date so close, we won’t have to wait long to find out the full technical breakdown of what are sure to be some of the most impressive gaming smartphones of 2023.
