The Walker Art Center has released its 2024 exhibition schedule, featuring several new works coming to the museum.
The most recognizable artist of the bunch is the late Keith Haring. The touring exhibition, Keith Haring: Art is For Everybody, was curated by The Broad, Los Angeles, and contains over 100 pieces of Haring’s pop figures along with rare archival photos, videos, and material from the artist’s personal journals. It opens on April 27 and runs through September 8.
Along with Haring, several other artists will have solo shows opening in 2024. Among them are Walter Price, Sadie Barnette, French artist Sophie Calle, and Tetsuya Yamada, who is based in the Twin Cities. The exhibition, Tetsuya Yamada: Listening, is Yamada’s first museum presentation and will run from January 18 to July 7.
There are also two new exhibitions exploring the Walker’s collections in depth. The first, Motion Capture: Recent Acquisitions in Media and Performance, showcases video and media art acquired by the Walker since 2020. With work from artist like Ligia Lewis and Jimmy Robert, the exhibit explores multimedia art forms and the incorporation of new video technology into art. Motion Capture will open on February 29 and runs until August 25.
Working as a direct complement to that show, This Must Be The Place: Inside the Walker’s Collection, running from June 20 until April 29, 2029, reconfigures pieces that have been in the Walker’s collections for years, with a completely new reinstallation of familiar works alongside new and never-before-seen collection holdings.
