Savannah Chrisley remains heartbroken about Todd and Julie Chrisley’s experience behind bars.
“They don’t get to speak. It’s been two years, and they haven’t spoken a word to each other,” Savannah, 27, claimed to People in an interview published Thursday, February 20. “They’ve been together almost 30 years, and they’ve never gone a day in their life without being with one another. That’s been a challenge. That should never happen.”
Todd, 55, and Julie, 52, reported to separate prisons in January 2023 to serve a combined 19-year sentence (seven for Julie, 12 for Todd) after being found guilty of bank fraud and tax evasion. While their sentences were reduced in September 2023 by nearly two years, the couple has continued working on appealing the court’s decision in hopes of getting out even earlier.
“The Bureau of Prisons says they strive to keep families together,” Savannah alleged in her latest interview. “That’s what they love to quote. That is so far from the truth.”
As Todd and Julie continue their prison sentences, Savannah remains focused on being the primary caregiver for her younger siblings Grayson, 18, and Chloe, 11.

Their busy schedules have made it harder for the Chrisley Knows Best star to visit her dad in Florida and her mom in Kentucky. Despite a booked calendar, Savannah tries to visit once or twice a month.
“I try to go as much as possible [to visit them],” she shared. “Obviously, when Chloe’s in school, it’s a little bit harder. During the summer, I feel like we were there every weekend, at one or the other. And then there’ve been times to where they’ve restricted my dad’s visits or some random stuff happens.”
While Savannah says her siblings “love it” when they have the chance to see their parents, it’s hard to say goodbye.

“That’s the tough part, turning your back and walking away, and knowing that they’re not coming with you,” she said. “I have friends who I’ve met that their family members are in there, and they’re coming out of prison, and you see these reunification videos. And you’re like, ‘All right, my day’s coming. My day is coming.’”
While Savannah tries to look towards the future, she can’t help but sometimes find herself looking back.
In a separate social media post, Savannah shared never-before-seen photos of the day her family said goodbye to Todd and Julie before their prison sentences began.
“Watching the two people I love most in this world say goodbye to us shattered my heart into pieces,” she wrote via Instagram on Wednesday, February 19. “I hold on to the hope that this isn’t the end of their story. God’s not done writing, and I believe with every ounce of my soul that they’ll be home soon.”
