Thypoch brings a faster and brighter 50mm lens, the Simera 50mm f/1.4

Thypoch brings a faster and brighter 50mm lens, the Simera 50mm f/1.4

Following the debut of the Thypoch Simera 35mm f/1.4 and 28mm f/1.4 for M/Z/X/E/RF mount, the Simera series will embrace the new focal length of 50mm with the large aperture f/1.4 for M mount.

In line with the exceptional optical performance of the existing Simera 35mm and 28mm f/1.4 lenses, the Simera 50mm will incorporate a crescent-shaped focus tab.

Key features

  1. Minimum focusing distance of 0.45m.
  2. 14-blade aperture to achieve light transmission of T1.5 .
  3. Crescent-shaped focus tab for a fluid focusing experience.
  4. Superb optics construction of 6 groups in 8 elements.
  5. Declicked and clicked aperture modes to suit specific needs.
  6. Rangefinder focus invalidation alert at 0.7m on focus ring

The Simera 50mm f/1.4 lens builds on the optical capabilities of the Simera 35mm and 28mm f/1.4. With a minimum focusing distance of just 0.45m, it outperforms the majority of rangefinder lenses that are limited to 0.7m. This capability opens up new possibilities for close-up and intimate photography. More user-friendly, there is a gentle resistance feedback at 0.7m, prompting users to switch to the EVF for even shorter focusing ranges.

The Simera 50mm features an 8-element, 6-group optical design, including one aspherical element, one extra-low dispersion (ED) element, and three high-refractive index (HRI) element, leading to sharp and clear images even at wide open and corners. Its floating elements deliver exceptional resolution at 0.45m, rivaling most rangefinder lenses at 0.9m, for consistently sharp results.

With its fast f/1.4 aperture, the Simera 50mm excels in low-light conditions. The high refractive index multi-layer coatings and high refractive index elements deliver an abundant light transmission of up to T1.5, resulting in bright and vibrant images. The cine-standard 14-blade aperture creates a round and pleasing bokeh, presenting a gentle focus falloff that evokes a three-dimensional cinematic visual. The clicked-and-declicked aperture ring allows a smooth transition between photography and video modes for limitless creative expression.
