In case you’re just learning about it, the Rollei 35 has been “remastered” with the Rollei 35 AF. Two years after announcing its plans to develop a compact 35mm film camera, MiNT Camera recently opened pre-orders for their take on the classic Rollei. While the pre-orders has since been temporarily closed, we’re sure many of you are still curious enough about the shooting experience and results to see if it’s worth taking a shot once pre-orders reopen. Well, today’s featured video tackles just that!
Above, we have Kai Wong prowling the streets of Hong Kong testing out the Rollei 35 AF. He begins the introduction to this camera with a quick size and weight comparison to show how compact the new version is compared to the original. He also mentions that unlike the new Pentax 17, this is essentially a Full Frame camera. Also, while the original 35 AF was a zone focus camera, its modern successor has been modernized with LIDAR technology for precise autofocus from 70 cm to infinity. Finally, he notes that while the 35 AF looks familiar, it feels different because all its parts are completely new and designed by MiNT Camera.
Next, we see Kai squeezing in some snaps in between talking about why he’s excited about the Rollei 35 AF. He also demonstrates how different it operates from the original due to the design changes (or upgrades, depending on how you look at it). Other details he tackles in the video include loading the camera, the autofocusing lens and low light shooting.
