Taylor Swift’s Team Slams ‘Invasive’ Speculation About Her Sexuality

Taylor Swift’s Team Slams ‘Invasive’ Speculation About Her Sexuality

After a recent New York Times piece speculated about Taylor Swift‘s sexuality, her team is reportedly clapping back, accusing the outlet of being ‘invasive’ and ‘inappropriate’.

The 5,000-word opinion piece that was recently published lists “evidence” that the “Blank Space” singer is a member of the LGBTQ+ community, however, her team says the article is completely ‘untrue.’

“Because of her massive success, in this moment there is a Taylor-shaped hole in people’s ethics,” a source close to the situation said, adding, “This article wouldn’t have been allowed to be written about Shawn Mendes or any male artist whose sexuality has been questioned by fans.”

In the New York Times opinion piece surrounding Taylor Swift’s sexuality, titled ‘Look What We Made Taylor Swift Do,’ editor Anna Marks provided a long list of “evidence,” which they say are “LGBTQ references” in which Swift hid within her songs over the years.

However, a source who is close to the singer slammed some media outlets, claiming there are no boundaries when it comes to writing about Taylor Swift.

“There seems to be no boundary some journalists won’t cross when writing about Taylor [Swift], regardless of how invasive, untrue, and inappropriate it is – all under the protective veil of an ‘opinion piece,’” the source, who asked not to be named, told CNN.

The New York Times opinion piece went on to suggest that Taylor Swift had been trying to ‘come out’ for years, indicating the singer identifies with the LGBTQ+ community.

“In isolation, a single dropped hairpin is perhaps meaningless or accidental, but considered together, they’re the unfurling of a ballerina bun after a long performance,” the New York Times opinion piece stated. “Those dropped hairpins began to appear in Ms. Swift’s artistry long before queer identity was undeniably marketable to mainstream America. They suggest to queer people that she is one of us.”

Taylor Swift Supports LGBTQ+ Community

Another example that Marks brings up is that on April 26, which is also known as Lesbian Visibility Day, Taylor Swift released her album’s lead single, “ME!,” in which she sings about self-love and self-acceptance.

Furthermore, the music video for the single, which Swift co-directed, features the singer dancing at a pride parade and covered in rainbow paint. She even turned down a marriage proposal by a man. She later described the music video as depicting “everything that makes me, me.”

However, the “Red” singer has always been a huge supporter of the LGBTQ+ community, meaning her music video could have just been her making a statement for the queen community amid the recent attacks the community has faced.

She even stated that her concerts are a “safe space” for the queer community as in 2019, when speaking with Vogue magazine, Swift said she just wanted to be a good friend and supporter of the LGBTQ community as their rights come under attack within the past few years.

“Rights are being stripped from basically everyone who isn’t a straight white cisgender male,” Swift told the magazine at the time. “I didn’t realize until recently that I could advocate for a community that I’m not a part of.”

Taylor Swift has previously denied that she is part of the LGBTQ+ community. She is currently dating NFL star and Kansas City Chiefs tight end, Travis Kelce.
