The exhibition, curated by Elena Dal Molin and Alessandra Maria Venditti, brings together a selection of ten paintings created specifically for the occasion in the ancient typography workshop in Arzignano, now transformed into a contemporary art space.
The title of the exhibition, “Olhares” (which means “glances” in Portuguese), refers to the connection established between the subjects depicted by Tarcisio Veloso and the observer. Tarcisio Veloso’s artistic exploration is deeply rooted in classical pictorial representation, with particular attention to the history of portraiture and its various evolutions over time. Favoring posed subjects who gaze at the viewer from beyond the canvas, the artist immerses the protagonists of his compositions in timeless and mysterious atmospheres, enriched by a constant juxtaposition of Renaissance-style details, such as clothing, with elements that evoke the contemporary era.
On display at Atipografia is a new selection of paintings that reveal Tarcisio Veloso’s creative process, often influenced by everyday events like watching a film or a chance encounter. The blend of reality and imagination crystallizes in a body of work with a theatrical arrangement, populated by human or mythological figures that are decontextualized and placed in a deep and empty horizon, highlighting their expressions and emotional movements.
With “Olhares,” Tarcisio Veloso’s exploration debuts in Europe, becoming an integral part of Atipografia’s cultural program, which combines a dedication to site-specific projects designed for the spaces of the former typography in Arzignano with a strong focus on the most interesting voices in the global contemporary art scene.
