Street photography tip: Composing with layers like the masters

The so-called decisive moment isn’t the only technique you can use to create compelling street snaps. If you look closely at some of the most iconic street photographs, you’ll notice that many of them also made clever use of layers in the composition. Whether you’re new to street photography or want to take your practice to the next level, today’s street photography tip will do the trick!

In the video above, The Raw Society Co-Founder Jorge Delgado-Ureña shares his thoughts and tips on how to incorporate layers into your street photography compositions. This, he noted, will add complexity and beautiful dynamics to your body of work. He also used his own street and travel photos to demonstrate how he came up with eye-catching compositions with the tips in mind.

First, he covered how to choose the best focal length for composing with layers. Then, he moved on to the actual shooting, with tips on how to approach the scene and why it’s important to pay attention to the colors.
