Spring macro photography with interesting springtime foliage

Foliage and tiny insects are among the popular subjects for spring macro photography, as they are perfect for capturing the vibrant colors and mood of the season. So, if you’re planning to do a bit of springtime macro soon, here’s a quick inspiration to help you find the best subjects!

In the video above, UK-based Andrew Lanxon shares what he typically looks for when he’s out for spring macro photography. Apart from the usual plants and flowers, he also keeps an eye out for other interesting elements as well. For example, he found a cluster of mushrooms that made for an eye-catching composition. He also suggested looking around for some interesting leaves and growths which can work great for more abstract compositions.

Another useful tip he shared is to use wide open apertures to isolate the subject from the background. This technique will also blur out the clutter behind your subject. I will transform the background into either a pleasing bokeh, or a wash of color that adds some contrast to your spring macro scene.
