Married couple Melissa Benoist and Chris Wood are teaming up to star in a new show.
The actors are reuniting to play an on-screen couple in upcoming NBC project, Duo, according to a Deadline report published Thursday, December 5.
The outlet reported that Wood, 36, will play a “soft-spoken, blue-collar worker” while Benoist, 36, will portray a “magnetic performer looking for her next break” and the pair “unexpectedly cross paths.”
Duo, which is written by Wood, is described by Deadline as being reminiscent of Daisy Jones and the Six and will show off both the actors’ musical abilities.
Benoist and Wood met while working on CW’s Supergirl, when Wood joined the series in season 2 in 2016 as Mon-El. Benoist was already playing the leading lady’s Kara Danvers (a.k.a. the titular superhero).
Their characters began to date on-screen – a romance which then transcended into a real-life romance.
Rumors of a spark between Benoist and Wood first emerged in March 2017 when they were spotted at Los Angeles International Airport together. A week later, the pair confirmed their relationship by showing PDA at the beach in Mexico.
Their romance continued to blossom and in February 2019, the actors announced their engagement.
“Yes yes yes it will always be yes,” Benoist wrote via Instagram to announce the engagement, while Wood captioned his post: “The happiest.”
They tied the knot six months later and shared photos of their special day via Instagram in November 2019.
“I’m always going to remember looking at you every five minutes on this day knowing both of us were thinking ‘how in the world did we get so lucky?’” Benoist gushed via Instagram at the time. “I still don’t understand how, but you prove to me every day that I’m one of the damn luckiest out there.”
Their relationship hit the next milestone in March 2020 when Benoist and Wood announced they were expecting their first child together.
“A non-canine child is coming to our family very soon!!!” Benoist wrote via Instagram alongside a photo of her holding up a baby shirt and Wood cradling one of their dogs. “@christophrwood has always been an old dad by nature but now he’s going to be a real one!”
Taking to Instagram, Benoist and Wood announced the arrival of son Huxley in September 2020.
“Huxley Robert Wood got here a few weeks ago and this little boy is everything,” Benoist captioned a photo of their son’s hand, while Wood wrote of the same pic: “Our son was born his name is Huxley he’s amazing and no it’s probably none of your business xo brb see you in 18 years.”
