Cofounder of philanthropic apparel brand Love Your Melon Zachary Quinn has dipped his toes in a sea of new products. Last week he launched Oceanfoam, a line of foam rollers made from algae and recycled materials.
Like his first venture (which he sold to New York-based Win Brands in 2022), Love Your Melon—a company that donates half its profits to the fight against pediatric cancer—Oceanfoam is also a mission-driven concept. The planet positive and sustainably-designed line consists of foam rollers, which are used to help relieve muscle tightness, soreness, and inflammation, and increase joint range of motion.
Each roller’s exterior is made with 15 percent algae from pellets sourced from waterways and treatment facilities in the U.S.; and the roller’s solid center is made from recycled foam sourced from the excess material leftover in yoga mats. Each full-size roller restores 26.2 gallons of water to the environment and cleans 75.1 grams of carbon dioxide from the air.
“How we were going to make them sustainable wasn’t initially obvious but I knew it was something I had to accomplish to complete the story,” says Quinn. “But on Easter 2023, my fiancé, Brooke, gave me a pair of Hunter slides made with bloom algae. This inspired the idea to make the first foam roller from algae. I thought, if they could do it with shoes, I knew it would work for a foam roller.”
The brand debuted with full- and travel-sized EVA foam rollers, the Tidal Roller ($55) and the Ripple Roller ($35), available in four colorways. But according to Quinn, Oceanfoam plans to drop more products down the road, including workout gear, clothing and accessories, and marine and pool products. oceanfoam.com
