Kevin Costner is in for what might be a long battle with his estranged wife, Christine Costner. She is refusing to leave their home.
Kevin Costner Is Stuck
The actor is currently dealing with a contentious split from Christine. He has demanded that she leave his home, but he says she isn’t budging. She straight up refuses to go. The only problem is, according to what is likely an ironclad prenup, she is required to leave.
According to Radar Online, Kevin has obtained Laura Wasser as his legal counsel, and she is asking the courts to inform Christine that she is required to vacate whether she wants to or not. The prenup says she had 30 days to leave once the relationship ended.
Kevin, via his lawyer, has informed the courts that Christine was the one who filed for divorce on May 1 and has yet to move out despite “multiple requests that she do so and despite Kevin’s offers to assist her financially in relocating to a new residence.”
Christine Costner Is Standing Her Ground
Christine has clarified that she has “taken the position that she will not move out of Kevin’s separate property residence unless and until Kevin agrees to various financial demands.” She supposedly has enough money to move out.
Kevin claims that he has been paying support to his almost ex-wife since the divorce papers were filed. Plus, a $1 million payment was given per the prenup, and an additional $200k was paid out earlier in their marriage.
Kevin is also covering his base when it comes to child support. He shares three minor children with Christine. This is the world-famous actor’s second marriage.
Kevin Costner Has The Kids Covered
Via his lawyer, he informed the courts that he’s made a “comprehensive temporary child support and fee proposal, he has agreed to and has maintained the financial status quo since the Petition was filed, continuing to pay all of the parties’ children’s expenses, and he is negotiating a summer visitation schedule for the parties’ three teenage children.”
Wasser backed up her client. “Kevin has acted in good faith and has done everything in his power to make the transition as seamless as possible. But Christine continues to refuse to vacate his separate property residence, as she agreed she would do in 2004 as a condition of marriage.”
Kevin is no fool; he has a lot of money, so of course, he would have a prenup that would be pretty hard to break through. Wasser confirmed this.
Laura Wasser Is Advocating For Her Client
The powerhouse lawyer spoke to the actor’s decades-long career and his need to protect himself and his assets.
“Securing his right to access his separate property residences in the event of a divorce was an important priority for Kevin. Kevin was married once before and, upon separation, found himself without a home base and unable to live in his own home,” she explains of her client’s attachment to his home.
Wasser continues. “He never wanted that to happen again. Because of the nature of his work, Kevin frequently works out of town; it was and remains, therefore, particularly important to him that when he is home, he has a home to go to.”
