Jelly Roll has been working on his fitness — and he’s lost 100 pounds in the process.
The country superstar, 39, celebrated meeting his weight-loss goal in an Instagram video shared earlier this week. “That’s why next year when y’all see me you won’t recognize me,” he said in the clip. “I’m going to get under a pile of weights in a way that I never have.”
In the same video, his chef Ian Larios revealed that Jelly Roll (real name Jason Bradley DeFord) had recently surpassed his goal of losing 100 pounds. He did this in part by incorporating more exercise into his routine, including boxing, basketball and walking arenas before shows on his Beautifully Broken Tour.
Larios also detailed some of the healthy snacks Jelly Roll has been eating on tour. For a preshow snack, the Grammy nominee likes banana, which Larios sometimes tops with manuka honey and dark chocolate sweetened with stevia.
For dinner, Jelly Roll sticks to meals that are high in protein. According to Larios, one of his favorites includes Nashville-style hot chicken and French fries — but prepared in a healthier way. Larios cooks the fries in bone broth to up their protein, while the chicken is dredged in potato flour and air fried, as removing the batter and oil makes it less fatty.
At the end of the video, Jelly Roll marveled again at how much his body has changed since he embarked on his weight-loss journey.
“When I see y’all in March for Canada, dawg, y’all aren’t gonna recognize me,” he quipped.
Earlier this year, Jelly Roll revealed that he was down 70 pounds after exercising more and changing his diet.
“I’m doing two to three miles a day, four to six days a week. I’m doing 20 to 30 minutes in the sauna, six minutes in a cold plunge every day,” he told People in April, adding that he’s “eating healthy right now.”
At the time, he noted he still planned to lose more weight in the coming months.
“I feel really good,” he explained. “I was thinking, I plan on losing another 100, 100-and-something [pounds]. If I feel this good down this weight, man, I can only imagine what I’m going to feel like by the time I go on tour.”
Jelly Roll’s Beautifully Broken Tour kicked off in August and continues in the U.S. through November. After a few more U.S. stops in early 2025, he’ll head to Montréal, Canada.
