General Hospital’s Evan Hofer is ready to relieve his final scenes as Dex Heller before his character’s shocking death.
“That last shot really makes Dex look pretty dead,” Hofer, 27, exclusively shared with Us Weekly when reliving the Friday, December 13, episode of General Hospital. “It was really cool because I got to work with Jeff Kober, who plays Cyrus Renault on the show. He’s this serial killer and kind of monster of a character. But Jeff is such an incredible man and incredible actor. For those final scenes, I knew I really wanted to bring the heat.”
From Hofer’s perspective, getting to participate in a “twist death” with Kober was nothing short of an honor.
“I was like, ‘I prepped extra hard for you because I knew you were going to be here and I was showing up for you,’” Hofer said before summarizing his character’s fate. “It’s kind of how Dex was going to get Cyrus in the hospital when he was working for Sonny. So it’s this kind of twist of fate, very soap opera.”
Hofer made his debut on General Hospital in 2022 and was part of more than 200 episodes before his character’s shocking death.
Throughout his experience working on set, Hofer was able to be inspired by soap opera legends including Maurice Benard, Cynthia Watros, Chad Duell, Josh Swickard and Michael Easton.
“For me, it was really top to bottom, just a fun acting opportunity,” Hofer said to Us. “It was always, ‘Wow. What a cool story to tell.’ This was always the story and it was going to be told, and I was just trying to do it the best I could and really soak in those incredible scenes, final scenes, with all these people that I love.”
While soap opera fans have witnessed some of their favorite actors come back to life after a shocking death, Hofer isn’t sharing any details about what’s to come.
Instead, he’s simply thrilled that he had the opportunity to develop and build a character over two years.
“From my very first day at General Hospital, I was just grateful for every day,” Hofer said. “Upon leaving, it really was a second home to me for the last two and a half years, and I couldn’t have loved it anymore, or love the people anymore. But It’s time for the next adventure.”
Hofer said he has some “really fun stuff in the works” that he hopes to share in 2025.
“I hope to keep doing really wonderful projects that I really enjoy and really challenge me as an actor like General Hospital has for the last two and half years,” he said. “Stay tuned.”
General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC.
