After shutting down rumors about their engagement, Demi Lovato has only the sweetest things to say about her boyfriend of nearly a year, Jordan Lutes, professionally known as Jutes.
Although the couple is not headed to the altar yet, their relationship seems to be as thriving as ever, with Lovato recently confirming so, much to her fans’ delight.
Demi Lovato And Jutes Were Friends For Several Months Before Dating
In a recent chat on SiriusXM touching on the 30-year-old singer’s latest documentary “Child Star,” Lovato dished on her relationship, revealing how it all started with friendship.
When asked if she was still in a relationship, Lovato exclaimed with joy, “we are” prompting the interviewer to gush about her obsession with the lovers who looked “cute” and seemed “so happy.”
“Like I feel like you’re just like friends first and foremost, which I feel [is] like the root of any good relationship,” the host commented With that, the “Skyscraper” vocalist narrated how the duo initially became pals before moving on to romance.
“Well, we became friends first. We were friends for several months, and then we decided to start dating, and well after, we told each other how we felt.”
Lovato continued, “It was kind of a mutual thing. Like we were texting, and he said something, and I was like, I took it one way, and he was like, okay, if you take it one way, then I know you like me.”
Fortunately, she took it “that way,” and “he was like, ‘Okay, got it!’” which led to their relationship. That was certainly a decision the twosome never regretted, as the “This Is Me” singer admitted, “I’m super happy, and he’s my best friend.” She also mentioned that he loved her music, including her latest album, “Revamped,” and she felt the same way about his music, saying, “I’m a huge fan of his music too.”
Last month, the lovebirds sparked engagement rumors after the “Wizards of Waverly Place” alum revealed that she took up her she/her pronouns after going public as they/them. During an interview, Lovato shared that it was “absolutely exhausting” enlightening people on why she identified with the “they/them” pronouns.
As a result, he chose to adopt she/her again. However, some fans took that to mean the emo songstress was taking her relationship with Jutes to the next level. in response to the engagement chatter, the “Sonny with a Chance” star took to Instagram to debunk them while maintaining that she and Jutes’ love affair was still in a good place.
Using a plain black background, she wrote “If I was engaged, I’d announce it!!!!!,” adding, “I went to say favorite person and glitched and said boyfriend instead.” Lovato then assured fans that she was “still obsessed” with the fellow music star and he remained “both my ffffffffavorite person and boyfriend.”

Although August 2023 will mark a year since Lovato and Jutes’ became a love item, devout fans of the couple would know that this month also marks a year since their first encounter.
In July 2022, the duo met while working together on the actress’ eighth studio album, “Holy Fvck,” which Jutes reflected on via Instagram, highlighting the album’s second single, “Substance.” “Substance by @ddlovato is out now!! One of my fav songs I’ve ever worked on,” he proclaimed at the time.
“When I got asked to pull up and write for this session, I remember thinking, wtf am I supposed to do in a Demi Lovato session? Only to show up and realize she was making one of the hardest rock projects I’ve ever heard,” the Indie artist added.
That was “obviously a crazy milestone” for the musician, and he felt blessed to be part of something he loved. Lovato reacted to the post with a note of appreciation, admitting that Jutes “killed the sessions” while she looked forward to future projects with him.
The following month, they sparked romance rumors when they kept communicating on social media and made several public appearances together, including during an outing in New York. In the same month, a source revealed that the “Glee” alum was “really happy” in a “healthy relationship” two years after ending her engagement to Max Ehrich.
Jutes later unveiled their relationship in honor of Lovato’s 30th birthday by writing the most heartwarming tribute, calling her his “everything,” and expressing his unending love.
