“Common Side Effects” is a half-hour animated comedy series created by Joe Bennett and Steve Hely (“Veep,” “American Dad,” “The Office,” “30 Rock”). Judge and Daniels are serving as executive producers for the project. The show will explore the complex reactions after two friends, Marshall and Frances, discover a mysterious elixir of life. Throughout the series, they unravel a conspiracy involving big pharma and the federal government that seeks to suppress the knowledge of the magical cure-all mushroom.
Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, and Boomerang President Michael Ouweleen said via press release on the series order, “Tonally, this is like nothing else in animation right now, so we knew immediately that ‘Common Side Effects’ belonged on Adult Swim.” He added, “Mike, Greg, and this entire team have such deep pedigrees in the comedy and animation worlds, and this new series will tackle everything from government corruption to the pharmaceutical industry through their unique and hilarious perspectives.”
Judge and Daniels’ Bandera Entertainment are producing the show. Judge Daniels and Bandera president Dustin Davis executive produce the series under the banner. Bennett also has another animated show in the works. His new sci-fi animated series, “Scavengers Reign,” will debut later on Max. His animated shorts also previously appeared on the FXX anthology series “Cake.”
Listed in Variety’s 2022 list of “10 Animators to Watch,” Bennett will also debut a sci-fi animated series, “Scavengers Reign,” for Max, and his animated shorts were featured on FXX’s anthology series “Cake.” Hely was a co-executive producer for the HBO series “Veep,” and a producer/writer for “American Dad,” “The Office” and “30 Rock.”
Meanwhile, Judge is also gearing up a revival for his classic FOX Network animated series, “King of the Hill.” The resurrection is currently in the works for Hulu. It does not yet have an official release date. Judge co-created the show with Daniels and voiced the series lead character Hank Hill and supporting character Jeff Boomhauer. The show ran for 13 seasons and 259 episodes for its original run from 1997 to 2010.
Judge’s first animated show, “Beavis and Butt-head,” was recently revived for Paramount+, and the revival’s second season debuted on the streamer earlier in April. The revival seasons followed a long-awaited second movie for the teenage antiheroes, “Beavis and Butt-head Do the Universe,” which also streamed on Paramount+. Judge voices both the Beavis and Butt-head characters in the series.
“Common Side Effects” does not yet have an official debut date. The show will air on Adult Swim later on.
