Portrait editing gets easier with Radiant Photo new portrait tools

Radiant Photo is already known for fast portrait retouching. With the new release that’s planned to drop this month, the portrait tools are getting even more powerful. Get a first look at the Radiant Photo webinar happening in the community this weekend. Let’s dive into what’s coming in Radiant Photo’s new portrait tools.

This set is part of Radiant Photo’s latest release, which is scheduled for this month. The other big ticket item is the new Color Style tools which add fine-grained hue, saturation and luminance tools to the suite, among other things.

I’ve got some images here to show the new tools that were provided by the Radiant Imaging Labs team, because these features don’t ship until later this month. You can get the first look at everything that’s coming by joining the webinar in the community. The before and after photos I’ve included are mine, edited with the current release of Radiant Photo.

The new tools are the first in a set, with another new tool planned to come in 2024. You will find them here in the Radiant Photo interface:

Give feedback by getting involved in the community. These tools remain separate from the more advanced retouching tools that already exist in Radiant Photo.

The new tools include Skin Tone detection (which can be automatic, or adjusted manually). Auto selection is the best method when batch editing because this gives the app the power to customise settings automatically for each image.

Automatic settings make batch editing fast when using the new portrait tools.

The next new tool is Skin Tone Balance. This tool juggles all the crazy light things that happen when the shutter opens. It balances the scene’s light, color and tone to create a unique lighting environment that best suits the subject. Its goal is to give accurate and natural skin tones. The effect is subtle but powerful.

Skin Tone Balance works with the environment and lighting to create an overall better tonal balance for the subject.

Skin & Depth Bias is the other powerful tool helping to correct some of the funny things cameras like to do in our images especially when the subject is not well lit. There’s three settings: Normal, Bright and Auto. Auto is best as above when batch editing or using presets because it allows the editing algorithm to toggle Skin & Depth Bias on when it’s necessary.

Skin & Depth Bias accounts for the background lighting, removing red from skin tones and balancing the overall image.

Infrared Removal and Color Cast Removal are new additions as well. Camera collect more infrared light than the eye sees, which adds unwanted red to an image. This automatically detects and removes the effect. Similarly, when shooting in environments with colored backgrounds, walls, ceilings and so on, an unwanted color cast is easy to fall prey to. The Radiant Photo new portrait tools remove this automatically.

Studio photographers will find plenty to like with the new Color Cast Removal tool.

The tools fix problems. Especially for event photographers using flash (flash is a big culprit for adding infrared) and studio photographers using backdrops and battling color casts, these tools will be a bonus. For anyone dealing with portrait photography is tricky lighting, there is a tool for the job in Radiant Photo.

Getting accurate skin tones will be easier with Radiant Photo new portrait tools.

For combination Radiant Photo and Lightroom Classic users, this will give a new suite of tools to better develop your portrait photos, quickly and easily. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to see the tools first-hand at the in-depth preview happening this weekend in the Radiant Photo community.

And, if you’ve missed it, there’s still time to grab yourself 90 days free of the brand new Radiant Photo app for mobile. Radiant AI Photo & Video Editor is available now on Android and iPhone devices.
