A true Minnesotan knows the first rule of winter clothing is: Function over form—and having the right gear is crucial for surviving—and thriving—in our great state’s harsh temps.
Take Dean “Deano” Pospesel, for instance, who was tired of missing his hockey league’s weekly post-game tailgate due to the chill. In 2018, Pospesel took design matters into his own hands and put his energy into fashioning the first iteration of the perfect parka—out of a sleeping bag.
Five years and many prototypes later, local- and family-owned brand, Deano’s Parkas, has officially launched to the public. Available in both men’s and women’s sizes, the coat, which retails for $300, is made of 100 percent polyester with a full fleece insulation, and comes with removable, adjustable interior backpack straps for wearing the parka on your back. It comes in forest green, black, neon pink, and blaze orange colorways.
“Our dad’s motto has always been to make ordinary moments special, and that is the mission behind Deano’s Parkas—to never let the elements hold you back from enjoying the fun,” says Ava Pospesel, Dean’s daughter and CEO of Deano’s Parkas, in a press release. “Our hope is this product will be a catalyst for making more memories with family and friends in the outdoors.”
In addition, with each each parka purchase comes a lightweight carrying sack for easy, on-the-go packing.
Shop the parkas online or at various holiday markets around the twin cities this season, including The Department’s at Dayton’s, Four Season’s Nordic Village at Riva Terrace, and the Wayzata Chilly Open.
